Online art competition received hundreds of entries by Singapore students expressing “My Singapore Dream”
31 Dec 2021 – The 2021 PaperOne Newspaper Handwriting Contest received hundreds of entries from 536 Singapore students studying at various primary and secondary schools. This contest enabled students to express themselves creatively by developing a handwritten newspaper, complete with English or Chinese language writing, art design and layout to promote, critical thinking, writing and creative art skills among students.
The Singapore edition, themed “My Singapore Dream” was organised by Yangcheng Evening News, Asia Art Association and sponsored by PaperOne, the flagship brand of Asia Pacific Resources International Holdings Ltd. (APRIL). Since its inception, the contest has involved more than 100,000 students from China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, expanding to Japan, South Korea, Russia, Hungary, Ecuador and Laos in 2021.
Singapore students were awarded Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes for their outstanding efforts and special prizes were awarded for the Best Writing, Best Design and Most Original entries as well. On 30 Nov 2021, a free online language and art lesson for students titled ‘Integrating Art and Language’, was conducted via Facebook by Singapore’s senior language expert Dr. Chua Chee Lay and renowned artist Suzlee Ibrahim, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art, ASWARA (National Academy of Arts & Culture, KL Malaysia) to encouraged the students to integrate different art forms, media and language. The complete video of this lesson was uploaded onto "Asian Art Association" social media channels on YouTube, Facebook and Tencent for public viewing at the request of students, parents and teachers.
